America Now, a coalition which promotes affordable health for all and which is formed by doctors, nurses, women's groups, labor unions and grassroots community organizations has recently published a national report about the insurance industry. On such report, two insurance companies from New Hampshire were featured as having healthy profits during the period of 2004 to 2007.
Anthem Health Plans was reported as having increased net income growth 348,5% during the period from 2004 to 2007. Harvard Pilgrim, the other insurance company featured in the report had a rise of 60.1% for the same period. Other data about the two companies showed that while Anthem's membership had a growth of 18.6% in the period, Harvard Pilgrim's grew 88.3%. Anthem's profits were $98 million while Harvard Pilgrim had $5,2 million of net income. Also, both companies reported increases in surplus. By the end of last year, Anthem accounted $229,3 million while Harvard Pilgrim accounted $28.6 million, combining a surplus of $258 million.
